2024 Walk4Valor

An Event to Support Veteran Suicide Awareness

September 27, 2024

On September 29th 2024, The Bob Feller Act of Valor Award Foundation will host an event on Long Island to raise awareness for Veteran Suicide Prevention.

Leading fellow soldiers, Veterans and friends, Charles J. Sanders, a Major in the United States Army National Guard and Commander of Southold American Legion Post 803 will hike 22 miles carrying 22 pounds to represent the 22 Veterans who die by suicide each day. Sanders is asking Americans to join him in person or online virtually in memory of our service members who die every day from suicide.

Walk4Valor is sponsored by the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award Foundation with support from other select Sponsors. The fundraiser will support the education of military children and Veterans. This year, the foundation will also donate a portion of the proceeds to Veterans Moving Forward which provides service dogs and canine therapy services to Veterans in need.

Net proceeds will go towards the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award Foundation Scholarship Fund for children of military families and military spouses. Last year, over $12,000 in tuition assistance was awarded to qualified applicants. Walkers are asked to join at 8:00am at American Legion Post 803 in Southold, New York.

Hope must be brought to living Veterans and their families. Foundation Founder and President Peter Fertig believes “Americans can join in unity to create and spread awareness about Veteran suicide prevention.” The foundation’s ongoing mission is to acknowledge and support the sacrifices made by service members, Veterans, and their dependents. As a part of this commitment, the foundation is proud to provide financial support for education and build greater awareness for important Veteran causes.

Peter Fertig founded The Bob Feller Act of Valor Award with the support of the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, Major League Baseball, the Cleveland Guardians, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the gracious consent of Mrs. Anne Feller, the San Diego Padres, and the family of Jerry Coleman.
