Board of Directors – Jen Underwood
Jen Underwood is a Senior Project Manager at Optum, a health care services company, working collaboratively across the health system to improve care delivery, quality and cost-effectiveness. Jen is a part of the Payment Integrity Client Implementation Team, working with health plans to implement solutions driving cost savings, simplifying claims administration, and driving out unnecessary and inappropriate medical costs, both on a pre-payment and post-payment basis. Prior to her work in Client Implementation, Jen was the client manager with one of Optum’s largest payer clients, and led the team responsible for identification and recovery of the payer’s claim overpayments.
In 2014, Jen served as a member of the Board of Advisors for the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation. She volunteered with the nomination committee as well as represented the Foundation at 3 of the on-field presentations to the 2014 Finalists (PNC Park, Orioles Park at Camden Yards, and Nationals Park). Jen has been a lifelong baseball fan, as well as an avid supporter of the US Military, and it is an honor to serve in a capacity which honors our heroes and gives our National Pastime another connection to doing so. Recognizing how the players serve our service members and their families goes a long way to extending their reach – by encouraging fans to understand what they do and getting them involved.
Jen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. A Flanders, NJ native, Jen is now raising her two daughters outside of Washington, DC – to be avid readers and baseball fans. Jen also walks 39 miles over 2 days every year (for the past 6 years) in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Washington DC, raising funds for local organizations who support research, care improvement, and preventive screening for under-served families in the greater Washington, DC metro area.
