Retired MLB Pitcher Brad Ziegler and Naval Academy Head Baseball Coach Paul Kostacopoulos: American Valor Podcast

The American Valor Podcast team was recently honored to converse with retired MLB pitcher Mr. Brad Ziegler and the head baseball coach of the United States Naval Academy baseball program Mr. Paul Kostacopoulos. Brad and Paul spoke about their careers in baseball, including how they got started in the game, what they have experienced and learned throughout their journeys and what led them to be involved with the military. Mr. Ziegler created Pastime for Patriots to honor service men and women; he was the MLB Bob Feller Act of Valor Award recipient in 2016. Mr. Kostacopoulos is the second-winningest head coach in Naval Academy baseball history. The Navy baseball program has earned five-straight Patriot League regular season titles under his guidance. In our seventh installment, the podcast team of Nathaniel Cameron, Tyler Buchholz and Colin Kirk sit down with retired eleven year Major League Baseball veteran pitcher Mr. Brad Ziegler. The group discusses Mr. Ziegler’s upbringing around baseball and his resilience that led him to the major leagues. After being drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies, Mr. Ziegler pitched for the Oakland Athletics, Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox and Miami Marlins. Mr. Ziegler was the Major League Baseball recipient of the 2016 Bob Feller Act of Valor Award for his regular support of his community, specifically veterans, through his foundation Pastime for Patriots. American Valor Podcast: Cleveland Indians Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Mr. Bob DiBiasio

We are excited to release our sixth episode of the American Valor podcast, in which the podcast team of Nathaniel Cameron, Tyler Buchholz, and Colin Kirk sit down with the Cleveland Indians’ Mr. Bob DiBiasio. Bob serves on the Act of Valor Foundation Board of Directors, where his experience and connections within the baseball industry are invaluable to the Foundation. Mr. DiBiasio is the host of the popular “Indians Alumni Round-table Show” on SportsTime Ohio, as well as “Tribe Tales,” a where-are-they-now segment that airs pre-game every Sunday on the Indians Radio Network. The group discusses Bob’s personal friendship with Bob Feller, his 30 plus year career in Major League Baseball, including currently serving as the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for the Cleveland Indians, as well as Mr. DiBiasio’s lifelong commitment to his community.

American Valor Patriot Program at National Baseball Hall of Fame

Thank you to the National Baseball Hall of Fame for the opportunity to be part of a great day at Doubleday Field this past Saturday, July 20th! Act of Valor President Peter Fertig, Retired Command Sergeant Major and Education Committee Chair Steve Curtis and USMC Gunnery Sergeant and 2018 Jerry Coleman Award winner  John Rose spoke about Bob Feller and the 37 members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame to serve during World War II. Thank you to everyone who was a part of the special day.

Previewing the Hall of Fame weekend festivities and the Foundation’s role in the Act of Valor Patriot Program, Johnny talks about the special Hall of Fame weekend in Cooperstown and his longstanding relationship with Jerry Coleman winner John Rose and Act of Valor Foundation President Peter Fertig. Peter, John and Retired Command Sergeant Major and Education Chair Steve Curtis spoke at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, New York on Saturday, July 20th. Bob Feller Major League Debut 83 Years Ago

The 17 year old Bob Feller’s first official major league appearance came on July 19th in the eighth inning of a game against the Washington Senators in Griffith Stadium that the Indians were losing 9-2. Feller plunked the first batter, Red Kress, in the ribs with a wild curveball. Then, throwing only fastballs, Feller retired the side around two walks on a strikeout and two popups to end his one inning of work.

Congratulations to New York Mets rookie Pete Alonso for winning the 2019 home run derby this week! Pete is donating part of his earnings to the Wounded Warrior Project and Tunnel To Towers. The Wounded Warrior Project honors and empowers wounded warriors. Tunnel To Towers honors military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.
